Goethe-Zertifikat A1 (Start German 1) Exam Schedule

The official list below only shows reserved time periods and not confirmed exams. Please confirm with your instructor whether or not a course has its final exam within this time.

Be sure to read all the Goethe exam guidelines on each exam's page prior to making a decision to register. Also, make sure you sign up for the right exam level.

Locations

The Exam Schedule lists the locations in which DEP conducts operator qualification tests. Please consult individual exam pages for additional guidelines, terms and conditions and exam content. If you require special accommodations due to a chronic illness, visual or hearing impairment, contact the exam provider directly and be sure to provide detailed documentation at the time of registration.

Faculty can find their exam times through the "View My Teaching Schedule" task on the Faculty Dashboard in Workday. The Registrar's Office also has a schedule of exam times for the classes that must have an exam by NYSED regulations. Final exams for evening classes are scheduled during the regular class times of the final exams.

Please take note that the Projected University Examination Schedule is provided for a tentative guide and that final exam dates are subject to change.



Registration

Students are encouraged to consult the exam schedule online. However, it is important to keep in mind that the final exam schedule may be altered at any time. For this reason, students should consult with their instructors to confirm that they have the correct date and time for their exam. Students should also make sure to print out the official list and bring it for their exams.

Students should also familiarize themselves with the guidelines and conditions of the exam, in addition to the schedule. They are available on the individual exam pages. Students acknowledge they have read and accepted the conditions and terms of registration.

Exam locations will do their best to accommodate those with special needs. The nature and extent of these needs must be stated on the registration form and confirmed by a medical attestation. In addition the exam sites must respect confidentiality and be maintained.

If students are scheduled to take three tests on the same day, they should contact their department or instructor to arrange for a make-up test. While it is possible to take three exams in one day, it could result in an increase in stress levels and could impact the quality of the exam. The professor may not be able give a makeup test on another day.

Students should review the course material prior to taking the exam and practice their German skills. The test is a test on paper that assesses the ability to speak, read, and write in German. The exam results are presented on a scale from A1 to C2. Students who pass the test receive a Goethe-Zertifikat. The certificate certifies that the student has attained the level of language A1. This level is the first level of the six-level scale of competency that is outlined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Foreign Languages. The exam is free. Students should bring a valid government-issued ID to the test. Anyone who does not have an ID with a valid photo are disqualified from the examination.

Fees

You must pay an examination fee if you wish to receive the Goethe-Zertifikat (start German 1) after you have completed your Elan Academy studies. This fee is in addition the course fee.

Practice assessments allow you to get a feel for the style of the test, the language, and the difficulty of the questions on the test. They help you assess your knowledge, identify gaps and increase your chances of acing the test.
